Katheryn Russell-Brown is the award-winning author of several children’s picture books, including Little Melba and Her Big Trombone. Shirley Chisholm's tenacity, wit, and willingness to fight the good fight inspired her to write She Was the First! When not writing picture books, Russell-Brown is a university professor of law, teaching and researching on issues of race and crime and the sociology of law.
Aixa Perez-Prado is an author, an illustrator, and a university professor of linguistic and cultural studies. Originally from Buenos Aires, she crafts stories that explore intersectional identities, the need for belonging, and the richness of bilingualism. Aixa found inspiration in the powerful voice of Mercedes Sosa and was drawn to the profound messages of social justice, human rights, and compassion in her music, culminating in Mercedes Sosa: Voice of the People and Mercedes Sosa: La voz del pueblo.
Michael Genhart is a licensed clinical psychologist and author of several picture books, including Spanish Is the Language of My Family. After being together for 22 years, Michael married the love of his life in 2008—when they could legally marry. With Edie for Equality, he is thrilled to share Edie's and Thea's story about love, commitment, and courage with readers of all ages.
