Shen’s Books

In 2013, LEE & LOW BOOKS acquired multicultural children’s book publisher Shen’s Books. Based in California, Shen’s Books published books emphasizing cultural diversity and tolerance, with a focus on introducing children to the cultures of Asia.

The acquisition was an exciting milestone for LEE & LOW BOOKS. It brought many favorite titles from Shen’s Books under the LEE & LOW umbrella, including Cora Cooks Pancit, about a young girl cooking up a favorite Filipino dish with her mother, and the Cinderella Around the World series.

Summoning the Phoenix: Poems and Prose About Chinese Musical Instruments was the first book published by Shen’s Books as an imprint of LEE & LOW BOOKS. The book received a warm welcome, earning a starred review from Kirkus Reviews.

“I am thrilled that our titles will be joining the amazing catalog of books at LEE & LOW,” said Renee Ting, former president and publisher of Shen’s Books. “There is no better publisher I can think of to carry on the values and spirit of Shen’s Books and advance the cause of diversity in children’s publishing.”

The Shen’s Books imprint of LEE & LOW BOOKS includes both backlist Shen’s titles and new books with a focus on Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Island cultures.
